Liberty Hall, near Lodi, VA

David Carson (1741 – 1803) in 1772 settled in an area now known as Liberty Hall near Lodi in Washington County, Virginia. His land was on a branch of the Middle Fork of the Holston River. According to the plots prepared by Bob and Donna Jean Ford, the current location of the Rock Spring Presbyterian Church is on the eastern edge of the David Carson Land. From there, the property runs west along Rock Spring Road and a small stream that flows into the Middle Fork of the Holston River. The western end of the property was near McGee Lane. [Note: Bob and Donna Jean Ford are researchers of Washington County, Virginia and are generous with their findings.]

Photo # 2 In 1784, the Rock Spring Presbyterian Church was organized. In 1820, Robert Edmondson and Matthew Brown deeded to the church the land that the church is now on. (Source: Page 610 Summers “History of Southwest Virginia”) The indenture dated March 20, 1792 between David Carson and his wife Elizabeth of the one part and William Moore of the other part for the fifty-three acres on a branch of the middle fork of the Holstein River, same granted by patent to David Carson June 20, 1785, mentions: rock spring, meeting house, grave yard, John Evans land, David Carson land, James Snodgrass line, Robert Buchanan land.
