The John Evans Carson family was active on the Union side in the Civil War (The National Archives and Records Administration, NARA M386 roll 5)

Joseph J. Carson, 2 Lieut. and Captain
3 Kentucky Infantry, Companies I and F
Joseph J. Carson served as Captain in company 'F', Third Regiment, Kentucky Infantry Volunteers from May 17, 1 863 to March 15, 1864. Previous to that was mustered in at Murfreesboro, Tenn., was 1st Lieutenant, Company I, 3rd Kentucky Inf. promoted to Captain May 17, 1863.

Joseph J. Carson received a land allotment (Oklahoma Territory when Cherokee Strip was opened Sept. 16, 1893) for service in Union Army during Civil War.
