Andreu family of East Florida
Hilda Merle Thomas, born c1900 in St Augustine, Florida descends from the Andreu family who immigrated from Minorca, Spain to the British colony in East Florida.

The Andreu family
Jaime Andreu married Martina Coll in Spain. They lived near the French border.
One of their sons, Juan Jose Andreu (born Feb 14, 1717) married Maria Angela Caules on Oct 13, 1737. Juan and Maria moved to the island of Minorca (first to Fornells, and then to Mercadel).
Juan and Maria Andreu and five of their children (including the youngest, Tomas
Andreu) immigrated to East Florida with the Turnbull group. Juan Andreu died in Les Mesquites (New Smyrna), and in 1777 when the colony disbanded, his widow, Maria,
at age sixty relocated to St Augustine, where she died in 1805.

'William' Guillermo was born. Catalina Nickleson was born about 1752, and
Catalina died 7 December 1804. Antonio Mestre son of Antonio Bartolome and
Antonia Rotger was born about 1752 in Mahon, Menorca and died 8 January 1803.
'William' Guillermo at the age of five has lost both parents and both paternal
grandparents; all are deceased before William turns six. Catalina Nickleson's
children: Bartolome Marcelino Mestre 1793-, Antonio Mariano Mestre 1794-1862,
Antonia Maria Mestre 1797-, Guillermo (Spanish: Guillermo = English: William)
Pasqual Placiso Mestre 1799-1830, and Juana Josefa Carlota Mestre 1801-. Church

Andreu is Find A Grave, but there is NO concrete source for the burial of Josef
'Jose' Juan Camilo Andreu, or his wife Maria de los Dolores Mestre. The obituary
that ran in the news on 10 December 1859, St. Augustine, Florida, Examiner "He
was followed to the grave by a numerous concourse, and buried in the Holy and
solemn form of the Catholic Church."
