Fernandez family of Spain, New York, and Tampa

The earliest documented Fernandez ancestor is Francisco Joreman Fernandez who was born April 8, 1856 in Spain. His parents are thought to be Nicolas Fernandez and Petronila Alverez of the City of Tova, Spain.

I have not been able to document when Francisco Joreman Fernandez immigrated to New York, but he seems to be in the 1880 New York census and in about 1883 he married Katherine DeSoto in New York. (Katherine, born 27 April 27, 1862 in New York city is thought to be the daughter of Joseph Baltasari Desoto and Catherine A. Brennan.)

In 1900 Katherine and Francisco lived at 209 Miller Avenue, Brooklyn, Kings County, NY. The 1910 census shows they lived at 2004 Taliaferro Street in Tampa, Florida. Later on they lived at 1018 Michigan Avenue in Tampa, Florida. After Francisco past away, Katherine lived in a cottage behind Nicholas (her son) and Victoria's house. She lived there for awhile then she moved into the Old Peoples Home at 1203 22nd. Avenue in Tampa, Florida. She lived there for about 22 years. Katherine's funeral service was held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and is buried at Oakland Cemetery. A rosary service was held at Wilson Sammon Company Funeral Service. (Mary Frank (Holman) Fernandez spoke about visiting Katherine in the Old Peoples Home.)

Francisco and Katherine had five children, including Francisco Joreman Fernandez Jr who was born May 29, 1894 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York and on August 23, 1920 in Tampa, Florida married Hilda Merle Thomas.

The Frank Merle Fernandez who married Mary Frank Holman was the son of Joreman Fernandez Jr and Hilda Merle Thomas.
