James Holman (Holeman, Holdman, Holdam), born about 1814 in Garrard County, Kentucky, is the earliest documented ancestor in our Holman family tree. He lived in the area of Crab Orchard and Brodhead (Stigall's Stand), Kentucky, which are on the border of three Kentucky counties: Lincoln, Garrard, and Rockcastle.

On June 4, 1835 in Garrard County, Kentucky, James Holman was married to Martha "Patsy" Ramsey, the daughter of Alexander Ramsey, by Baptist minister Benjamin Polston.

***

James Holman and Martha Ramsey had eleven children. Amanda M Holman was the second one.

Amanda "Mandy" M. Holman was born in February 1839 in Kentucky. On June 23, 1862 in Garrard County, Kentucky, she married William P. Tatem, a farmer from Madison County.

William and Amanda’s daughter, Mary F. Tatem, married Robert L. Collier

William and Amanda’s son, Samuel J. Tatem, owned a department store (and may have been a bootlegger). Samuel J. Tatem died November 29, 1944 in Lincoln Co, Kentucky and left a sum of money. Claudia Lung Carson, the widow of Samuel David Holman, received part of the inheritance.

Samuel J. Tatem died on Nov 29, 1944 in Lincoln County, Ky. His wife, Jennie (Payne) Tatem, had died earlier, and they had no children. The funds were distributed to relatives of his mother (Amanda M. Holman) and father (William P. Tatum).

The public auction occurred on February 23, 1945 by F.C. Hurt, Administrator.
The Sale Bill was filed on January 2, 1946 and recorded in Book 6, page 181.

- Mr. Robert L. Collier and Miss Mollie, the handsome daughter of Mr. W.P. Tatem, both of Crab Orchard, came down to Dr J.O.
