James Holman (Holdman, Holeman)
Born: about 1814 in Madison County, Kentucky
Died: about 1886 in Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Kentucky
James Holman (Holdman,
Holeman) was born about 1814 in Madison County, Kentucky. He lived in the area of Brodhead
and Crab Orchard, Kentucky, which are on the border of three Kentucky counties: Lincoln, Garrard, and
Rockcastle. (At one time part of Garrard County was the western part of
Madison County.)
On June 4, 1835 in Garrard County, Kentucky, James Holman was married to Martha
Ramsey, the daughter of Alexander Ramsey, by Baptist minister Benjamin Polston.
***
I have been unable to find the parents of James Holman (born about 1814 in Madison County, Kentucky) in or around Madison County. The Holeman/Holman Newsletter shows just one Holman family in Madison County - Joseph Holeman, a son of Thomas Holeman of Wilkes County, North Carolina (d. ca 1798). There were two men named Daniel Holman in Madison County.
One of them is the Daniel Holman who married Rebecca Johnson. [See below] Is this Daniel Holman the same Daniel Holman who married Sally and were the parents of the Elizabeth Holman who married Robert Nall? [See Hardin County, Kentucky]
The other Daniel Holeman in Madison County married Rebecca Elkins on June 14, 1809 in Madison County, Kentucky. This Daniel Holeman may be the son of Joseph Holeman, a son of Thomas Holeman of Wilkes County, North Carolina (d. ca 1798). He is a likely candidate to be the father of the James Holman (born about 1814 in Madison County, Kentucky) who married Martha Ramsey.

Clark County, Indiana lies on the north bank of the Ohio River. Clark County's settlement began in 1783. The state of Virginia rewarded General George Rogers Clark and his regiment for their victorious capture of Forts Kaskaskia, Cahokia, and Vincennes from
the British by granting them 150,000 acres of land. A small portion of this land, 1,000 acres became known as Clarksville, the first authorized American settlement in the Northwest Territory, founded the next year in 1784.
On the south side of the Ohio River is Jefferson County, Kentucky which was organized in 1780 and one of the first three counties formed out of the original Kentucky County (part of Virginia).
