The Missouri Territory was originally known as the Louisiana Territory and was renamed in 1812, to avoid confusion with the new state of Louisiana. The Territory of Missouri existed from 1812 until 1821. (In 1820, a portion of the Territory became the state of Missouri.) In 1819, the Territory of Arkansas was created from a portion of the southern area of the Territory of Missouri.
Arkansas County was created from New Madrid County, Missouri Territory. Arkansas County was part of the Missouri Territory from 1813 to 1819 and part of the Arkansas Territory from 1819 to 1836.

Holiman picture to be given to Grant County Museum
A picture of Warren and Millie Walters Holiman will be hung at the Grant County Museum at 9 a.m. Friday. This picture is believed to have been taken during the early 1800's is being donated by Ben Holiman.
The Honorable Warren Holiman (as he was addressed) was one of the pioneers descended from the Christopher Holliman line that was at Jamestown, Va., in 1620.
Warren and Millie Holiman came from Anson County, N. C., via Alabama to Arkansas in 1840. Warren Holiman served as a wagon master for the group headed for Arkansas.
He served as postmaster of Old Belfast and along with Col. Vance represented what is now Grant County in writing the constitution during Reconstruction after the Civil War. He also helped organize the Masonic Lodge at Old Belfast and served in the environmental development of Arkansas.
Note: Some Holman Family Researchers believe that
the William Holeman who married Ann Tandy descended from the Isle
of Wright line.
