James Holman (Holdman, Holeman)
Born: about 1814 in Madison County, Kentucky
Died: about 1886 in Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Kentucky



James Holman (Holdman, Holeman) was born about 1814 in Madison County, Kentucky. He lived in the area of Brodhead and Crab Orchard, Kentucky, which are on the border of three Kentucky counties: Lincoln, Garrard, and Rockcastle. (At one time part of Garrard County was the western part of Madison County.)

On June 4, 1835 in Garrard County, Kentucky, James Holman was married to Martha Ramsey, the daughter of Alexander Ramsey, by Baptist minister Benjamin Polston

The results of the DNA tests show that the descendant of James Holeman, b. 1814 is:

"very tightly related" to the descendant of the Daniel Holman who was born about 1787 in North Carolina, had children in Tennessee, and homesteaded in Douglas, Missouri;

"very tightly related" to the descendant of the Kenneth Holeman who died in 1871 in Upperfreehold, Monmouth Co., New Jersey who is thought to be a descendant of Robert Holeman, died 1709 in New Jersey;

"related" to a descendant of the Elias Holeman (1759 - 1827, Burlington County, New Jersey); and

"related" to the descendants of Thomas Holeman, died about 1798, who moved from Shenandoah County, Virginia to North Carolina around 1750.

Stanbury in Knox County, Kentucky

 

Knox County, Kentucky was created December 19, 1799 from Lincoln County. Laurel County was created December 12, 1825 from Clay, Rockcastle, Whitley and Knox Counties. (Daniel Boone Trace passes through part of Knox County that became Laurel County.) Bell County was created February 28, 1867 from Harlan and Knox counties.

There were two Stanberry lines in Knox County, Kentucky. Are they related?
* Nathan Stanberry: b. 1735 in Middlesex County, New Jersey; married Julia Harrison; lived in Wilkes County, North Carolina; d. 1819 in Wayne County, Indiana. Nathan Stansbury (1735-1819) and his cousin Moses A Stansbury (1743-1830) settled in Wilkes County, North Carolina on the Elk Creek of the Yadkin River. Daniel Jackson and his wife Prudence Stansbury [daughter of Nathan Stansbury (1735-1819)] moved to the Indiana territory in 1812. Nathan Stansbury (1735-1819) sold his North Carolina farm in 1817 and moved to Wayne County, Indiana.

* Solomon Stanberry: b. 1755 in Baltimore, Maryland; married Jane Lewing in 1791 in Lincoln County, North Carolina; d. 1842 in Laurel County, Kentucky.]

David Stanberry [son of Nathan Stanberry (1735-1819) and Julia Harrison] was born 1784 in Wilkes County, North Carolina; married Rachel Holman in 1806 in Wilkes County, North Carolina; and died in 1855 in Whitley County, Kentucky. [Note: Rachel Holeman, born May 04, 1787 in Wilkes, North Carolina is the daughter of Thomas Holeman (1756-1833) and his first wife Margaret Sutherland (1758-1791).
